The Canal du Midi is a unique site where it is good to walk, each at his own pace. Here are some possibilities to discover it better:
A trip on a boat, 1 or 2 hours with the boat Saint Roch:
Sylvie and Detlef will tell you the story of the creation of this exceptional work, the famous people who contributed to the success of this vast enterprise. The fauna, the flora, the diversion bays and the engineering structures will no longer hold any secrets for you! A first walk of 1 hour will allow you to enjoy the view that the Grand Bassin offers on our city of Chaur and its most beautiful monuments. You will walk along the marina where cereals used to be stored before being loaded onto the boats. You will sail in the direction of Toulouse, in the shade of the plane trees before returning to the port.
A second 2-hour tour will give you the opportunity to continue the first route (Grand Bassin, Port of Castelnaudary) but to complete it by passing through the Planque lock. You will see how a lock works, with the opening of the gates that allow water to pass through, but also the marks on the stone made by the craftsmen who took part in its construction.
The boat Saint Roch, with a capacity of 48 passengers, is therefore ideal for group outings.
Feel like a captain and rent your own boat with the St Roch’s gabarots! These are small boats with an electric motor to sail for a few hours or half a day. Departure from the quay of the port in Castelnaudary.
If you want to sail for longer on the Canal du Midi, ask the company Le Boat in Castelnaudary which has a fleet of nearly 70 boats. Take a trip with family or friends, an ideal holiday for those who like to take their time and wake up somewhere else every morning. These are boats without a licence, after a few hours training you will be autonomous and you will go to discover the beauty of the landscapes crossed by the Canal.
